Description

Saskatoon (Amelanchier alnifolia

Amelanchier alnifolia, commonly known as saskatoon or serviceberry, is native to western North America. It typically grows 1-4 meters tall. The shrub prefers well-drained, nutrient-rich soils but is adaptable to various soil types. It enjoys full sun but can tolerate partial shade. Its water requirement is moderate. It produces white flowers in spring, followed by edible blue-black berries. The berries are consumed as fruit and used in various dishes. Due to its small size, the wood has limited use but is popular as an ornamental plant.
