Small-leaved linden (Tilia cordata)
The small-leaved linden (Tilia cordata) is a small and medium-sized deciduous tree native to Central and Eastern Europe. It has distinctive, heart-shaped leaves and fragrant, creamy-white flowers that bloom in early summer and attract bees. The flowers of the linden tree are often used in herbal teas, as they are soothing and slightly expectorant. The bark of the tree is smooth and grey-brown. The small-leaved linden adapts well to the urban environment, so it is often planted in parks and streets. In autumn, its leaves turn bright yellow, creating a decorative spot of color in the landscape. Its growth is slow when young, but it can grow relatively quickly later. It is shade-tolerant and lives in the second crown level.
The weight of its wood at average dryness: 535 kg/m3. Its color varies from white to cream. It can be easily carved and turned.
