Russian olive (Elaeagnus angustifolia)
Elaeagnus angustifolia, commonly known as the Russian olive, is a deciduous shrub or small tree native from Southern Europe to Asia. It can grow up to 7-8 meters tall. It adapts well to dry, sandy, and calcareous soils, requires full sun, and is drought-resistant. It has silvery-green leaves and yellow flowers that bloom in summer. Its fruits are edible, small olive-like berries. Its uses are diverse: as a food source, ornamental plant, and windbreak.
Its wood is air-dried at 685 kg/m3, not durable, but good firewood. It provides wood that can be carved and turned.
